Sundays are always stressful for me. I’ve mentioned the Sunday Scaries before and I haven’t found a way around that feeling yet. Yesterday I woke up and promised myself that I would do something to take care of myself and I couldn’t manage to do it.
Self-care is glamorized as face masks and bubble baths but I’d actually just love to read a good book and drink a cup of tea. Lately I’ve been so busy that I even feel like I need to rush through my daily shower in order to get more things done. Self- care is needed but it isn’t happening.
My generation puts so much pressure on themselves to succeed. My university has something called “30 Under 30” which highlights graduates under 30 who have moved on and done amazing things with their lives. I hate that. I don’t need a daily competition reminder.
I’m burnt out and frustrated with this self-care talk. I’ve spent so much time taking care of other people and sometimes I really just need someone to take care of me. I have a ton of negative energy around me right now and I need to get away from it.
Do you have any tips for self-care?

Hey beaut. Hope you’re okay. First of all, remember that this is temporary. You’ll be feeling better again soon.
I know it’s easier said than done, but take some time out to prioritise you. Forget about the busyness of life and take a longer shower, read your book before bed instead of scrolling through social media for example. What I’d say right now is, prioritise you. Whatever’s on that busy to do list of yours, put self care at the top. You’ll feel so much better and be so much more productive for it. Don’t stress about what you ‘have’ to do, because does it really matter so much anyway? Nothings more important than looking after you hun so please put yourself first. You deserve it beauty!!! Just take some time out for you, and everything else will fall into place. Message me if you ever need a chat, I’m here for ya!

There are plenty of ways of self care that aren’t face masks and bubble baths – the thought of sitting in a bath to relax instantly makes me unrelaxed, don’t ask me why. Take time to breathe and be in the moment and remind yourself it’s ok if something doesn’t get done, you need to look after yourself and whether that’s an extra hour or two in bed to sleep/rest or treating yourself to takeaway food so be it. Reading is another good one and I find jigsaw puzzles calming too ❤️

I agree! I like taking a bath every once in awhile because we have a nice big bathtub and I usually just watch an episode of Teen Mom. Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m trying to take more time out for myself and trying to be less stressed and crazy. ❤

Ugh I hate the pressure, I totally get it. My week is so chaotic and so not filled with any form of self care, I try to take time on sundays to just do something that makes me happy. It could be a 5 minute walk or an hour reading or the whole day if I have the time! Just one little thing to mentally separate me from Monday doom.

All the pressure sucks! I hate running around constantly and feeling so drained. I am really trying to spend more time doing things that I love though!

Sometimes I just come home from work and lay on the floor. Granted, my dogs always come over and bug me because I’m at their level, so I guess that’s a perk. I just try to find time to unwind and do something I like, even if it’s just watching Netflix. Self-care doesn’t have to be anything fancy.

Dogs always make things better!! I’ve been really working on my self-care since I wrote this post and have been taking everyone’s advice to heart. I started re-watching the Gilmore Girls which makes me really happy. It is about all of the little things!

I have a new “21st century” version of self care that im currently doing. Its intended to care for the mind and soul rather than the outside. Though Im sure as my little experiment goes on the outside will also reap the benefts.

That sounds really interesting!! I love the idea of caring for your mind and soul rather than your body. I feel like for me I need to take the time to decompress and put myself into a healthy mindspace.

I hope you find some time for self-care, Hayley. Sometimes it is just taking the day off & reading a good book. You deserve that. ♡

Thank you! I took some time off after writing this post to really reflect on the changes I needed to make. I read a book this weekend and have tried to slow down a bit. I feel so much better! ❤
