A Year of Travel

IMG_3798

I love a good adventure. I love getting on a plane or in a car and heading to a new place to explore. I love hearing different languages, eating foreign foods, and seeing sites that I never even dreamed I’d be able to see.

Looking back on 2019 I have realized that I was actually able to travel quite a bit. I get really caught up in the whole work-life balance, 9-5 thing and vacation time is a huge stress for me. I want to be able to travel but I also have so many responsibilities that I don’t feel able to travel as much as I’d like to.

Let’s take a quick recap of my 2019 travel adventures.

We didn’t get to travel quite as much as we wanted to but I did get to reunite with my study abroad friend in Oregon, visit my sister in New Hampshire, and go many weekend adventures. Brett and I spent a couple of weekends in Chicago and visited Cedar Point in Ohio.

I hope that 2020 is filled with so many more travels for us. One of our main goals before settling down and having a couple of kids is to travel as much as possible. We are hoping to have another big Europe trip this year!

Are there any places on your travel bucketlist? Did you go anywhere new in 2019?

I Just Want to Travel

I love to travel. There’s just something so amazing about exploring a new place, culture, way of life, that really makes me feel alive. I love wandering around new cities and getting lost. I love listening to people speak different languages and wondering what they are saying.

Every year my vacation days refresh and I begin to plan all of the things I want to do and see. My work is pretty good about vacation time but it never seems to be enough for me. There’s a whole world out there that I want to explore!

Brett also loves to travel so we talk constantly about the next places on our bucketlist. In 2020 we really want to visit Amsterdam and Prague but I’d love to sneak in a few days in London. We didn’t plan a big trip in 2019 because we traveled to Florida, Arizona, Oregon, and Florida again. I think we will visit Massachusetts or New Hampshire in the fall though!

Travel is something that is always on my heart and mind. I visited Europe for the first time in 2011 and became addicted to exploring new places. There are so many places that I haven’t been and I’m looking forward to visiting all of them!

Do you love to travel?

Five on Friday #6

Five on Friday

Happy Friday, friends!

I have been waiting for this day since Tuesday! We had our Day of Caring Monday which meant that I didn’t have to go into work. Instead my company encourages us to volunteer our time at somewhere in the community. Volunteering at the food pantry helped me start my week off on the right foot.

  1. This might be the weekend where I finally get a much needed haircut. My hair is super thick and wavy and I really need to cut a few inches off.
  2. I had a major breakout last weekend so I re-ordered my favorite Murad set. I seriously love all of these products and cannot recommend them enough if you suffer from acne. I have been using Murad for about eight years now and have nothing but positive things to say about their products. The clarifying cleanser is a constant re-buy for me and I always have at least a couple of bottles on hand so that I never run out.
  3. I re-arranged our bedroom last weekend and I am so in love with how it turned out. I bought a new duvet set from Target that I have had my eyes on for awhile and it really helped transform our room. This weekend I’m going to try to finish up organizing my closet room (AKA extra bedroom turned walk-in closet).
  4. I’m still on cloud nine from our trip to Arizona to visit my grandparents. We had a great time exploring with them and I’m hoping to write some travel posts this weekend!
  5. Brett and I are both in desperate need for new laptops so I would really appreciate any recommendations! I would love something that I am able to play The Sims on but in reality I only need a laptop that would be great for blogging and online shopping. What kind of computer do you use?

I always love hearing what others are doing on their weekends so please let me know what you are up to!

Five on Friday #5

Five on Friday

It’s been a hot second since my last Five on Friday post! Today I am finally back with another five things that I am looking forward to or thinking about on this dreary Friday morning.

  1. We leave for Arizona tomorrow morning to visit my grandparents! My mom, sister, Brett, and I are going down for a few days of relaxation and family time before my sister moves to Hawaii next month. I can’t wait to be back with the fam and have a few days off of work!
  2. I have five books packed in my suitcase ready to go for some serious pool time reading. I’m flying through books again so please send me your recommendations! I’m trying to read a variety of different genres this year.
  3. I’m in the process of redecorating my house for spring and it’s making all of this snow and ice much more bearable. Michigan went from -37 degrees Fahrenheit to 40 degrees Fahrenheit in the matter of a week. My body is confused about what season we are in.
  4. I’m working on changing my mindset towards weight loss. I’ve been really struggling since early 2018 with my weight after taking a medication that made me blow up like a balloon. I’ve had issues with food in the past so I know that I need to be careful with myself and try to keep this experience as positive as possible.
  5. Brett and I are trying to plan out our summer! Summertime in Michigan is my absolute favorite but I always feel so stressed to squeeze everything in my the time it rolls around because I didn’t plan ahead. This year I just want to spend as much time at my grandparent’s house on the lake as possible.

What are your plans for this weekend?

Spring Break: Arizona Part Two

Our first full day in Arizona was on a Sunday. My grandparents took us to this giant flea market to look around and shop. Dani found a lot of really cool things including, jewelry, beads, and dream catchers. I enjoyed walking around with my grandparents and just looking at all of the cool and very random items on display. You can find anything at flea markets and the best thing is most of the vendors are willing to negotiate prices with you!

My grandparent's spoiled us with about a million of these delicious peanut butter cups! If you haven't tried them yet you should go buy yourself a huge box right now!

The rest of the day was spent catching up and relaxing. My grandparents left right after Christmas for Arizona so we had a ton to talk about. They are huge supporters of mine and my sister’s education and really take in interest in what classes we are taking and what we are learning from them. I especially like talking to my grandpa about education because he is really smart and knows a lot of different information on a variety of subjects.

We spent most of our time in Arizona going on “adventures”. My grandparents had looked forward to use coming and had a huge list of activities for us to do. It’s never a dull moment with my family!

One of my favorite days in Arizona was Tuesday morning when we got up bright and early to get pedicures. Tuesday was a girl’s day and even my Aunt Marilyn joined in on the fun. We had a relaxing time getting our nails done and they even lined all of us up in a row so we could talk! My grandma had so much fun and she met a ton of new people. My toes are now red with feathers on the big toe.

After pedicures, we went shopping at this beautiful outdoor mall. My grandma had been talking for a couple of months about taking us to this store called Charming Charlie’s. I had never even heard of it before but fell in love with it! Charming Charlie’s is basically a girl’s dream closet. It has jewelry, shoes, and clothes in every color of the rainbow! We spent a good hour in there looking at everything. I helped my grandma pick out the cutest outfit for spring complete with jewelry and a new purse!

That night we went to a restaurant called “Organ Stop Pizza” with the whole family. My grandparents live in the same community as my Aunt Marilyn, Uncle Gordon, Uncle Larry, and a few of their other close friends. Last time we were in Arizona we went to this place and I loved it so much so my grandparents made sure to take us back this time. We all split a giant pizza and sat back and watched two of the organ shows. At one point in time my grandma was singing along with the music which made me unbelievably happy. If you are ever in Arizona I recommend stopping at this place and watching the show!

Organ Stop Pizza! This man was incredible at playing the organ!

There will be more later but for now I have to finish my economics and business technology homework. Thanks for reading!

Spring Break Arrival

Last week was spring break for my university. I spent my break in Arizona with my grandparents, mom, and younger sister. My dad is going on a fishing trip in May so he decided to stay behind. My grandparents are “snowbirds” they live in Michigan in May through December and in Arizona January to April. This is the second spring break that I have spent visiting them. The last one was when I was in the fifth grade so I don’t remember much of it.

Our adventure started on Friday night after my mom finished work. We drove from Kalamazoo to Chicago which took about three and a half hours. As usual, my sister and I annoyed my mom the whole way there. We arrived at our hotel, Crowne Plaza, and parked the car for the week. This hotel is only a mile from the airport and offers shuttle rides. The hotel room was very nice with two queen sized beds and a giant bathroom. Dani and I spent the rest of the night trying out a new face mask and then going to bed relatively early.

I am thinking about doing a review about this products on the blog.

Our flight was at 2 pm on Saturday. There was supposed to be a snow storm in Chicago but luckily our flight left before the storm hit. The flight was really bumpy and scary. We had to stay buckled most of the flight and the flight attendants couldn’t leave their seats. They told us we may have to land early due to bad weather. The last hour of the flight was really nerve-racking but we made it to Phoenix!

My grandparents picked us up from the airport and took us to dinner at Village Inn. The name of the restaurant made me think of some little place inside an Inn. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a cute little chain restaurant. I had a really good BLT and the waitress gave my sister and me a free piece of pie to celebrate our arrival! We went to bed early that night and I was just so happy to be with my grandparents.

I know most people my age wouldn’t want to spend their spring break in a retirement community but it was honestly one of the best spring breaks that I have ever been on. We made a “bucket list” of things that we wanted to do over break and my grandparents went above and beyond to make sure that we did everything on that list and so much more. I am so grateful that I got to spend my break with them and I am just thankful that I got blessed with such great grandparents.

More on my break to follow and thanks for reading! How was your spring break?
