Five on Friday

Happy Friyay!

I hope that you had a great week and are looking forward to an even better weekend! Because it was the first full week of the month I was super busy preparing client statements and doing account maintenance. The weather is finally getting better in Michigan so I’ve been taking Oscar for walks and it’s motivating me to do more after work. All in all, things are starting to look up!

  1. I bought an Apple Watch last weekend for my work’s upcoming walking challenge. I really love the Apple Watch so far but I still need to figure out how to work a few things! I am hoping that having this watch and doing the walking challenge will help motivate me to continue pushing myself towards my healthy lifestyle goal.
  2. It might finally be nice enough out this weekend to start doing yard work! It also might rain and I will not be raking leaves in the rain haha.
  3. My sister in law is having twins in July or August! They have been trying for the last few years to have a baby and they announced at Christmas that they are expecting twins! I am preparing for the babies in the best way I know how – reading! I’ve read all the articles and blogs on twins that I can find. I’ve been shopping and planning the shower. I seriously can’t wait to hold those little miracles.
  4. I watched the movie Seven with Brett and our friend last week. It was the creepiest movie that I have ever seen and I can’t stop thinking about it. UGH! Have you seen it?
  5. I know I’m behind on the times but I finally started using the Kindle App on my iPhone! I’ve already read two books and know that this will help me increase my reading! I’m really going to miss paper books though so I know that I won’t be reading everything on Kindle. I’m always looking for book recommendations so please let me know if you have any!

How was your week? Do you have any plans for this weekend?

2019 Spring Cleaning List

2019 Spring Cleaning List

We moved into our house in March of 2018 so this is technically our second spring. Last spring we were still trying to unpack and organize our belongings so I didn’t really do any spring cleaning. Plus, the previous owners of our house left it spotless when they moved out. I did a little cleaning before we unpacked but for the most part everything was ready to go.

This year I am already in the process of deep cleaning everything and re-organizing. My house isn’t clean all the time but I do love having everything super organized. I’d love to be one of those people with a clean house all the time.

I’ve been working on my spring cleaning list so I thought it would be fun to share and maybe give you some inspiration for your own spring cleaning!

  1. Clean out and vacuum both Cars
  2. Clean out the garage & shed
  3. Organize the main level guest room aka my “closet” room
  4. Clean out the storage room in the basement
  5. Rake the leaves in the backyard and bag them for spring pickup day
  6. Deep clean the basement entertainment area
  7. Paint both dressers and the desk
  8. Deep clean fridge/freezer
  9. Organize upstairs closet
  10. Organize the coat/cleaning closet
  11. Organize the pantry
  12. Sort items in the dining room hutch
  13. Organize and clean out the kitchen cabinets
  14. Move the furniture and sweep, mop, or vacuum underneath

Will you be doing any spring cleaning this year?

Five on Friday

Happy Friday!! I am so ready for this weekend! This past week has been a bit of a struggle for me. I’ve been fighting a losing battle with a headache that wants to turn into a migraine. This weekend I plan on getting some much needed sleep!

  1. I’m going into this weekend with no real plans. Maybe I’ll clean the house and go grocery shopping? But I don’t really have anything else lined up to do which is the best feeling!
  2. I’ve been reading a couple chapters every night from Top Ten by Katie Cotugno. I loved reading 99 Days over the summer so I was excited to read another book by her! So far I don’t love it as much as I loved 99 Days but I do think it’s really cute and fluffy.
  3. Speaking of high school, we cleaned out my parent’s basement last weekend and now I am the proud owner of two boxes full of high school memories. High School Hayley was really annoying and I’m happy to have left her in the past.
  4. One year ago we were moving into our first house! It’s crazy how fast time has gone! I never thought I’d find somewhere that made me feel more at home than my parent’s house where I grew up. But the moment I walked into our house I felt relaxed and knew that we were meant to be there. One year later and I am still so in love with our cozy cape cod!
  5. I’ve been thinking about work-life balance this past week. I was talking to my group of study abroad friends about how much vacation time is standard in their countries. My workplace is pretty flexible when it comes to time off, working from home, and sick days but I still feel pressure to work as much as possible. The thought of being able to take a two week vacation seems crazy to me now! Honestly, I have had so many thoughts running through my head this past week that I need to figure out how to sort through.

How was your week? Do you have any plans this weekend?

We Bought Our First House!

Buying Your First House, We bought our first house

Hey, hey.

In my last post I mentioned that I had some exciting news to share! So here we go….

*Drum Roll*

Brett and I bought our first house!

In my first quarter goals I wrote about looking for our first house but I never expected to make an offer, have the offer accepted, and move in all before the end of March. I would say that we are lucky but it wasn’t all luck. We worked SO hard to be able to buy this house. It took a lot of dedication and teamwork to be able to afford a house at our age. We are grateful to continue our story together in our first house!

Here’s the story of our first house:

In early January I found a house online that I loved right away. Brett was a little hesitant but agreed to go look. We weren’t really looking to buy right away since we just signed a new lease in December. We saw the house, Brett fell in love, but someone else put in an offer and it got accepted. The house changed to pending.

Fast forward two weeks and the house came back on the market. We went again to look but I still had some anxiety about making an offer. We slept on it and the next morning had our realtor put in our offer. Right off the bat we knew that the house needed a new roof so we planned for that expense in our offer.

24 hours later and we still hadn’t heard from the sellers. It turns out another couple made a similar offer so the seller’s realtor asked us for our best and final offer. At this point Brett and I are both kind of over the house. We put in our final offer and pretty much knew we aren’t going to get the house.

I can remember sitting on the couch the night we made our final offer. I was browsing Zillow on my laptop when I came across this adorable 1941 Cape Cod in our dream neighborhood. It felt like fate.

The next morning we got the news that our offer on the first house did not get accepted. It was a weird feeling because I did really like that house and could imagine us living there for a long time. I was also happy because I wanted to see that Cape Cod that I found on Zillow. I texted the MLS number to our realtor right away.

48 hours later I hurried to the Cape Cod after work for our viewing. We brought my parents, sister, and our friend to help us make the decision. Right away Brett and I both knew that this was the house for us. There was no anxiety or second thoughts. We made an offer right away.

3 hours later the sellers accepted our offer and we broke out a bottle of wine to celebrate! We closed on March 5th and officially moved in on March 10th. Brett and I are overjoyed with the house.

We still have a lot of things to do and boxes to unpack but the house is coming along perfectly. We have already hosted a few cookouts on our back deck and have enjoyed many walks in our new neighborhood. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our little family.

This is the beginning of a new chapter in the Life of Hayley (and Brett) and I could not be any more excited. I will try to share some pictures along the way but for now it is mostly half unpacked boxes and empty walls.

Thanks for reading!
