May According to my iPhone

IMG_3684

May was a super busy month for me! It wasn’t very memorable and slightly boring though. Mostly work, family time, dog walks, and time at the lake. Here’s a quick recap of what my life looked like in May.

Let’s start with the world’s happiest dog, Oscar! We celebrated his first gotcha day in May. This means that one year ago we adopted Oscar from the animal shelter and brought his home to join our family. You can read his full adoption story here. It was really important to both Brett and I that we rescue a dog and give them a good life after a not so great start. I think we have succeeded so far!

May was dreary and rainy for the most part but we still had some good times at the lake! I’m ready for summer!

IMG_3651

May was the last week of my work’s walking challenge. Brett, Oscar, and I walked pretty much every day around are neighborhood. My boys are so cute! ❤

It was beautiful a beautiful spring in Michigan (when it wasn’t raining)! I love seeing everything come to life after a long winter.

IMG_3687

Oscar isn’t a fan of swimming but he loves sitting on the dock! We enjoyed our first real lake day on Memorial Day!

IMG_3691

My grandparent’s got a new boat this year and we took it on it’s maiden voyage on Memorial Day! Such a fun day with family!

Here’s a quick look at our upstairs guest bedroom. I never fully decorated it when we moved in so I’m finally getting around to making it feel like a welcoming part of our home. Here’s a before and hopefully I’ll have an after soon! It’s a huge space because it’s a converted attic so it’s the length of our house. The old owners used it as their master bedroom.

Did you do anything fun in May? What are you looking forward to in June?

April According to my iPhone

IMG_3438

April went by so fast! This month we were busy at work finishing up everything before the notorious tax day. My department is always pretty crazy during tax season and this year was no different.

April was also the start of our annual walking challenge at work. The challenge this year is to reach 10,000 steps every day. The team that finishes the challenge with the most points gets an extra vacation day or additional wellness dollars! Extra vacation day for me, please! Oscar is happy about the walking challenge because it means he gets to go for extra walks to help me reach my step goal.

My bosses bought our team some games this year to play on chill Friday afternoons. One of the games is this giant Jenga set. We usually have 4:01s on Friday after the stock market closes where we unwind by playing a few games of Jenga together. Work hard, play hard. It’s all about balance afterall!

IMG_3516

As always, I spent a ton of time cuddling with my fur babies. Oscar is our dachshund mix and Lucy is our cat. I love how much they love each other too!

IMG_3521

I was heartbroken to watch the Notre Dame fire in Paris. I watched pretty much the whole thing live and felt devastated. I love history and am very lucky to have been able to visit the Notre Dame a few times already. This isn’t necessarily about a building or a church, it’s about living history. Everyone has their own opinions but I’m sad for the people of Paris and am hopeful to be able to see Notre Dame restored at some point.

IMG_3523

Brett has been traveling a ton for work. When he was in Atlanta for a week I made sure to FaceTime him every night so we could catch up and he could talk to Lucy and Oscar.

IMG_3536

Oscar’s first Easter with our family! He was probably living on the streets last year at this time which is really sad to think about. We love our rescue pup so much!

IMG_3546

Here’s a little look into our Easter decor. We hosted Easter dinner for Brett’s family. We used the dining room table (pictured below) to display the food and setup another table in our living room to eat. It turned out great! This was our second Easter in our home.

IMG_3551

Please note that I successfully cooked my first ham! Also note the Easter basket with the two pink eggs. My sister in law did her twin gender reveal on Easter! They are having twin girls and I could not be more excited! Baby shower planning is now in full swing!

IMG_3561

Our best friend graduated from college last weekend! We threw him a surprise graduation party in our backyard and invited all our friends and his family. He thought he was coming over so that I could drive everyone to dinner (professional DD!) but instead he found everyone waiting in our backyard ready to celebrate! It did snow a couple hours after this picture was taken. Michigan is unpredictable!

IMG_3572

I’m not sure that I’ve mentioned it on the blog but my parent’s adopted a dachshund puppy named Bruno in December. He’s a brindle like Oscar and they are best friends. Oscar is on the left and Bruno is on the right! My dad brings Bruno over to our house a lot for puppy play dates!

April was a super busy and super fun month! Looking back at all of these pictures makes me feel like a lot happened in only 30 days. I’m looking forward to the things to come in May including my cousin’s baby shower, Memorial Day weekend, lots and lots of dog walks, and (hopefully) the start of summer weather.

How was your April?

Meet Oscar – The Story of Our Rescue Dog

Dog Rescue, Adopt Don't Shop, Our Rescue Dog Story
Hey friends!

The most exciting thing happened a couple of weeks ago. If you follow me on Instagram you would have already seen but….

Brett and I finally adopted our first dog together! We have been considering taking this step for a while and we finally pulled the trigger. His name is Oscar and he is a 5ish month old Dachshund puppy. He may be a Dachshund mix but we aren’t completely sure at this point in time.

It seems like Oscar has had a bit of a rough life. We found him at an Animal Shelter about 30 minutes from our house. My sister and I went to meet him one day after work. Brett didn’t want to go because he thought that he might get too attached.

One of the first things I noticed about Oscar was how tiny he seemed in the small meeting room that the Shelter used. His ribs were very noticeable and the lady we were talking to said that he was malnourished and under weight. I couldn’t believe how sweet and cuddly he was even though he was just meeting us.

It was love at first sight. I knew in my heart that I wanted to adopt this little puppy and make sure that he had the best life ever! Brett and I knew that we wanted a rescue dog, we wanted to save a life. If you’ve read my post about my parent’s dog, Megan, then you would already know just how important rescue animals are to me. We changed Megan’s life and she certainly changed ours too!

Osc

We visited Oscar on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon the Shelter called to tell us that they had reviewed our application and were allowing us to adopt Oscar! I was at work at the time so after I hung up I went running over to my co-workers and shouted the good news! I was, and still am, so excited!

On Friday May 25th Oscar was neutered. That afternoon, Brett, Dani, and I picked him up from the Shelter. I couldn’t wait to bring him home and give him all the love that he deserves. During the car ride home Oscar rested his head on my shoulder and gave us all so many kisses. I could tell that he was happy to be going home with us.

So far Oscar has been the sweetest puppy and is the perfect addition to our little family. He is doing really well with his potty training and loves sleeping in his crate. The night we brought him home we set up his crate with a bed, blanket, and his soft toys. He went right in at bedtime and fell asleep!

OScarLucy
I was most worried about how Oscar would behave around our cat Lucy. So far, so good though! Lucy mostly ignores him and Oscar tends to chase her from time to time. But mostly they will both snuggle up with me on the couch at night. Lucy has adjusted to him fine and I know that with time they may even become friends.

Our little family has grown to four members and we couldn’t be happier! Stay tuned for more puppy adventures!
